Commercial analysis you can defend, line by line.
A commercial decision needs more than the lowest number. QuantDoc separates what each quote proves from what it leaves open, shows the cost of the unknowns, and gives you a record of how the decision was reached, with every figure traced to its source.
A decision record you can share
Four views instead of one misleading ranking
A single “cheapest supplier” answer hides too much. QuantDoc presents each comparison through four views, because each answers a different commercial question and each can point to a different supplier.
- As quoted: what each supplier actually asks for, on its own terms. Useful for checking the paperwork, not for ranking.
- Like-for-like: only the items every supplier quotes equivalently, normalised to the same unit and GST basis. This isolates genuine price differences on common scope.
- Complete scope: the full cost of everything your requirement needs. It is shown for a supplier only when every required component is priced or included. Anything excluded, to be advised or not mentioned keeps it incomplete.
- Risk and uncertainty: exclusions, unknown prices, conditional matches, provisional sums, short validity, payment terms and possible calculation issues, ranked by severity.
When a complete-scope cost is unavailable, QuantDoc doesn’t stop at “incomplete”. It calculates break-even thresholds: the amount below which an unknown cost would have to come in for the cheaper-looking quote to remain cheaper. That turns an open question into a number you can test with a single phone call.
Worked example: a lower price with a missing scope item

Two electrical subcontract quotes, one excluding the switchboard
What was quoted
- Subcontractor A: Rough-in $18,400, fit-off $9,600, main switchboard supply and install $4,200 (ex GST).
- Subcontractor B: Rough-in $17,900, fit-off $9,100 (ex GST). Exclusion: "Main switchboard excluded (by builder)".
INCOMPLETE — Subcontractor A is the lowest fully-priced quote, but Subcontractor B has unknown costs. No overall winner can be declared yet.

- Subcontractor B: supply not mentioned
- Subcontractor B: no matching item for "Main switchboard supply and install"
Like-for-like (rough-in + fit-off): A: $18,400.00 + $9,600.00 = $28,000.00 B: $17,900.00 + $9,100.00 = $27,000.00 (B lower by $1,000.00) Complete scope: A: $28,000.00 + $4,200.00 = $32,200.00 B: $27,000.00 + switchboard (unknown) Break-even: $32,200.00 − $27,000.00 = $5,200.00
Scenarios and weighted evaluation, clearly labelled
Once the facts are laid out, you will often want to test a judgement: what if the excluded switchboard costs $4,500? What if the job needs 10% more material, or one supplier offers 5% off? QuantDoc lets you apply those changes as a named what-if scenario. Scenario results are computed separately and always marked hypothetical, so a modelled figure can never be mistaken for a quoted one. Advanced scenario modelling is part of the Professional plan and above.
For decisions that turn on more than price, weighted supplier evaluation scores each quote against criteria you choose, such as completeness, payment terms, lead time and validity. The weights are yours and are shown in the report. Where a criterion depends on information that is missing, the weighted total is withheld instead of being calculated on an assumption. Weighted evaluation is included in the Professional plan and above.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between like-for-like and complete-scope cost?
Like-for-like compares only the items every supplier quotes equivalently, normalised to the same units and GST basis. Complete-scope cost is the full cost of everything your requirement needs, and it is only shown for a supplier when every required component is priced or included. If anything is unknown, that supplier’s complete-scope cost is withheld.
Are what-if scenarios mixed into the real results?
No. Scenarios such as an estimated freight cost, a supplier discount or a contingency are computed separately and always labelled hypothetical. The original quotes and results are never changed by a scenario.
How does weighted supplier evaluation work?
You choose criteria such as price, completeness, payment terms and lead time, and give each a weight. Scores are only produced when the information they depend on is known; if a price is unknown, the weighted total is withheld rather than calculated on a guess.
Does QuantDoc recommend which supplier to choose?
It shows the evidence: proven differences, unknowns, risks and break-even points. When the comparison is complete it states which quote is lowest on complete scope. The commercial decision, which often depends on relationships, programme and risk appetite, stays with you.
Is AI used for the numbers?
No. All money arithmetic is deterministic decimal calculation. AI is used only to read documents the standard reader can't, such as scans, on paid plans and the trial, and its figures are flagged for review.
